Nintendo has announced today that Mario and Co will be making an appearance in the Wii U version of Minecraft.

Come May the 18th players will be able to download a free update which will bring the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom to the blocky world of Minecraft. Once the update has been downloaded players will have instant access to a Super Mario-themed pre-made world, a set of Super Mario-themed music and item textures which have been inspired by games from the Mario series as well as 40 new skins, including:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Princess Peach
  • Daisy
  • Toad
  • Toadette
  • Yoshi
  • Birdo
  • Bowser
  • Wario
  • Waluigi
  • Shyguy
  • Doctor Mario
  • Kameke
  • Koopa Troopa
  • Diddy Kong

From the trailer above it also looks as if some passive mobs will get a make over. Chickens will run around as Goombas and Cows look to have been re-skinned as Koopa Troopas.
