Developer Digital Dreams Entertainment has hit their Kickstarter goal for the spiritual successor to the cult classic arcade football game Mutant Football League, which was originally released on the SEGA Mega Drive way back in 1993

The game is being headed by the original creator and lead designer of the Mutant League series, Michael Mendheim. For those unfamiliar with the series, the game is a different take on American Football, with skeletons and monsters taking to the gridiron for some blood-soaked, smash mouth carnage.

Digital Dreams Entertainment released a pre-alpha video to coincide with the Superbowl weekend. Having played the original, I can say this is what I imagined playing back in the nineties:

Mutant Football League is being developed for PS4, Xbox One and PC with a release date to be confirmed
