Team Xecuter Tease Nintendo Switch Custom Firmware

The team behind a number of popular modding tools for the Xbox, Team Xecuter, has confirmed that they have successfully opened up Nintendo’s newest console to custom firmware.

The team claims that their solution will work on “ANY Nintendo Switch console regardless of the currently installed firmware” as well as being future proof. Their aim is to allow users to run their own unassigned code on the hybrid console paving the way for custom firmware as well as other software.

The team has provided a very short video (below) which appears to show the system booting with a custom logo and has teased a 2018 release.

Allegedly, the team has provided proof of their breakthrough in the form of a decrypt key; which can be found on their site.

Personally, I’m not sure what to think of this news. A small part of me hopes it’s a ruse to give the Switch time to grow and become a bigger success, but on the other hand, I enjoy the freedom of homebrew to allow me to backup my saves.
