Popular video game accessory manufacturer Hori has announced it will be releasing a JoyCon with a D-Pad. If you’ve been following the Nintendo Switch scene since it’s release last year you’ll know that the lack of a D-Pad has been the subject of hot debate. Worry not, Hori has your back; with a few restrictions.
The JoyCon is due to go on sale in July 2018 in Japan and will retail at around 2,480 yen. This translates to about £16. Should the device hit the UK, I expect we’ll be charged around £19.99 or thereabouts.
The JoyCon comes in a dark blue colour and features a fully function D-Pad, something that fans of Nintendo hybrid system have been calling for for a long time now. There are, however, a few drawbacks to the device.
The Hori JoyCon will not be wireless, meaning it will only work while connected to the Switch in handheld mode. As it is not wireless it will have no need of the SL and SR buttons which will not be present. In addition, it will not feature HD rumble or gyro options.
For those who desperately want a D-Pad its not a bad option, though sacrificing wireless could be a deterrent. For the more adventurous there are always 3rd party kits that allow you to mod your JoyCon to have ad-Pad without losing any of its functionality.
