Pokémon Go Community Day’s are monthly events where Niantic increases the spawn rate of a particular Pokémon, giving players the chance to catch something that might normally span very little as well as offer special moves for ‘mons evolved during the event. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the upcoming Charmander Community Day.
Charmander is the fifth Pokémon to be given its own Community day, following the likes of Pikachu, Dratini, Bulbasaur and most recently Mareep.
When is it happening?
The Community Day will be on Saturday the 19th of May 2018 during the following times:
Europe, Middle East, Africa, India
10am to 1pm UK (GMT), 11am to 2pm (CET)
North America, South America and Greenland
1am to 2pm (PST) , 2pm to 5pm (EST)
12pm to 3pm (JST)
What is a Community Day?
A Community Day is a three-hour event that happens on a monthly basis (typically on a weekend) where the spawn rate of a certain Pokémon is increased. In addition, other bonuses are also awarded such as an exclusive move for the Pokémon in the spotlight that day, extra Stardust and longer lasting Lure Modules. The idea is to encourage players to get outside to catch their favourite Pokémon and increase the chances of being able to participate in raid battles while keeping the game fresh and interesting.
Will there be a shiny Charmander?
While Niantic doesn’t confirm this ahead of time experience would suggest that yes, there will be. Previous events have shown that shiny versions of the Pokémon on offer do spawn but you’re not guaranteed to get one. For example, during the last Community Event (with Mareep) I caught two shiny versions in a row, whereas during the other events I didn’t find a single one.
If you really do want that shiny Charmander – and why wouldn’t you, Charizard looks awesome as a shiny! – my advice is to catch every Charmander you see as they don’t appear as shiny on the map. And in case you’re not sure, Charmander’s shiny form is a light orange, like the images below.
What’s the special move?
Players who evolve a Charmeleon into a Charizard during the event will find that their new friend has the move Blast Burn. This special move will only be available for Charizard’s that are caught or evolved during the event so make sure you stock up on Pokéballs and Pinap berries.
How best to prepare?
The event will run from 10am to 1pm GMT on the 19th of May (in the UK). During this time Charmander will spawn much more than normal.
To take advantage of this you’ll want to make sure you stock up on Pokéballs, Greatballs, Ultraballs and Pinap berries! If you’re looking for that Shiny Charmander, catching everything you see is probably the best way to go. If you really want that Blast Burn Charizard, Pinap berries will help you out a lot.
If you’re planning on parking by a cluster of Pokéstops, Lure Modules will last for three hours and will spawn more Pokémon for you and everyone around you. Likewise, Incense will do the same but on a personal level.
If you’re looking to take advantage of all the EXP you’ll be earning, Lucky Eggs will help with that. If you have a few spare, why not activate them and rake in that bonus experience?
3x Stardust catch bonus
Take advantage of the Stardust bonus by using Star Pieces. When activated this item grants you 50% extra Stardust for thirty minutes! Perfect if you’re low on Stardust and need a quick fix to help powerup your Pokémon.
Have fun and be safe!
That’s pretty much all you need to know about the upcoming community day. Remeber, have fun, but be safe at the same time. Be aware of your surroundings and be sure not to go anywhere you’re not supposed to.
Good luck catching a shiny Charmander!
