In a surprise event this morning, Japan time, Nintendo announced that the rumoured Switch titles Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu and Pokémon Lets Go Eevee will release at the end of the year.
The two titles have been influenced by Pokémon Yellow and the mobile sensation Pokémon Go and has been designed with new and returning players in mind. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that this isn’t the core Switch game that we’ve been expecting – that will come later in 2019 – but it is an entry in the mainline series.
Enough talk. Check out the trailer below!
There’s so much to take in.
The Pokémon Go integration looks like it could be a lot of fun, transferring your caught Pokémon onto the Switch is a neat idea. Buddy Pokémon look like they’re back – a fan request since the days of Soul Silver and Heart Gold as well as a whole new capture mechanic, again inspired by Pokémon Go.
For a first time in the series, players can play local co-op on the same system taking part in double battles as well as helping one another catch wild Pokémon.
In addition the new Pokéball Plus accessory allows players to bring their Pokemon with them, a bit like the Pokéwalker from Generation 4! It will also double up as a Pokémon Go Plus accessory.
Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee are due for release worldwide on the 16th of November. I can’t wait!
