After the release of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey the series will be taking a year hiatus Ubisoft has confirmed.

The gaming giant instead wants to focus on delivering fresh content to Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Speaking at GamesCom, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained that both Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey were developed in tandem with one another meaning the company was able to release them so close together.

“On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year,” said Guillemot. “It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one.”

He also commented on the break between Syndicate and Origins, mentioning that the extra time was worth it:

“[The time] gave the team the possibility to really bring what they wanted to. The community has been responding very well to it and when I see what we are bringing with Odyssey I know that the community that got back in with Origins will be amazed.”

Do you agree with Guillemot? Was the break worth it? Personally, I think it was, and another break certainly won’t hurt the series. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is due for release on the 5th of October for the PlayStation and Xbox One family of consoles as well as the PC.
