It looks like Mojang has been busy lately. In an announcement at the Anual Minecon event the company revealed a new game that will be coming to the PC in 2019; Minecraft: Dungeons. In addition, the main game in the series will be getting an update to Villages in the “Village and Pillage” update.
Minecraft: Dungeons is an action adventure game set in the Minecraft universe (Think Minecraft: Story Mode by Telltale) and is being worked on by a small team in Stockholm, Sweden.
Inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, players in Minecraft: Dungeons will be able to discover new weapons and items to help them take out swarms of mobs through various biome types.
Players can take on dungeons on their own or tackle them with up to 3 friends online. Minecraft: Dungeons is due for release on the PC in 2019. More information on the game can be found on the official website.
In addition to Minecraft: Dungeons, Mojang has outlined the next major update to the game. Talking to the Minecon audience, Jens ‘Jeb’ Bergensten and Agnes Larsson spoke about the “Village and Pillage” update which will bring a much-needed overhaul to villages in Minecraft.
To begin with, depending on the biome the village spawns in will dictate how it looks, including how the villagers will look. Below you can find an example of Jungle Biome Villagers.
As well as new villages and villagers the new update will also include a new mob called Pillagers who will be accompanied by Beasts. While not much more is known about these two additions, we know that they’ll actively try and cause harm to villagers.
Lastly, with the new update, Mojang will also be adding in Pandas and more cats – more news on these will be released soon according to Mojang so keep an eye out for updates in the near future!
